Children are active learners. They learn best when they take ownership of their learning. Projects provide the opportunities for children to be directly involved; from the choice of project topic to the direction of the project and finally to the choice of concluding activity of the project.
Each term, the children get to do two projects (English and Chinese). The project runs in three phases and generally lasts for ten weeks.
Phase 1: Getting started – the children engage in choosing the topic for investigation; discussing what is known; and making a list of questions about the topic
Phase 2: Investigation – the children will be looking for answers to the questions; collecting new information; and engaging in exploratory activities and discussing findings
Phase 3: Concluding the project – the children will be discussing and comparing what they knew before and what they have found out; creating displays to share the findings/story of the project; and deciding on concluding activity.
